You Can Prosper in the Midst of Famine
by Pastor Kemi Johnson
You are down to your last meal with no options left, what do you do?
a-Eat the meal and hope for the best?
b-Feed the person who caused the food shortage?
c-Steal your best friend's food and let him starve?
d-Don't eat until you are sure of the next meal?
That's what this dear widow in Zarephath recorded in I Kings 17: 7-16 had to deal with.
That's the difficult situation she found herself in. Times of famine always seem to throw up catch-22 situations - like between a rock and a hard place! But guess what she did?
You guessed right! She didn't have him for dinner, she gave him her last dinner. Answer b above. Phew, ok! (And by the way God gave her many more dinners throughout the famine!)
HERE’S HOW TO DO IT:
Obedience opens the door to the way of escape.
Obedience allows God to deliver the strategy to escape from the famine. Obeying God in normal times isn't always easy. Obeying him in times of famine is very hard for the flesh. What God tells you to do in the famine may not be appealing at all to our natural senses and sensibilities, but it is the key to receiving the way of escape from the famine to a place where we can be a solution in the famine. God will speak to those who listen for the purpose of obeying him! It goes like this, Point 1 - Listen and Obey, Point 2 - Never forget point 1.
If everyone is suffering in the famine, then why go with the crowd?
Dare to be different. There were 400 other widows in town suffering in the famine. She was the only one God visited because she had a different disposition. She had a "speak to me Lord, I'm ready to obey" disposition.
God will give you a strategy, revelation, invention.
Expect God to give you a revelation, strategy (that you can employ) to move out of the famine into abundance as you have an obedient heart. Ask him to open your ears to hear afresh, anew and to a detailed level. In this season God will bless you with simple strategies, policies, economic models, etc. to break out of the famine into abundance. God's eyes are constantly on you looking to show himself strong on your behalf.
These are tough times for us all but God has made a way of escape for us out of the famine into abundance for his name sake! You can prosper in the midst of famine, there is no dead end to God, there is always a way of escape. Your way of escape will find you. God has ordained your life to be a story that glorifies Him and blesses generations yet unborn just like this one precious widow in Zarephath!
Your miracle is in your house!
Do an inventory of what you already own, or have. This is what God will use. What you have will create what you need. Remember - You get the most help when you express what's in YOUR heart and use what's in YOUR hand.
Tip - Most of us do not need 30% of what we have. Sell your un-utilized clothes, books, dvd's on amazon or e-bay!
